Born in the late 70’s/early 80’s, dancehall is a form of Jamaican street dance as well as a music genre. The dance style later spread to Europe through the medium of popular dancehall artists and videos. Dancehall is a smooth and laidback dance but requires attention to accents and control of movements. It is a very good workout, so you are guaranteed to break a sweat! In this class we focus on the queen style dancing - mainly aimed at women! On the streets of Jamaica, new moves are constantly being created; in this class we keep up with these new steps along with visiting the roots and learning the foundations of dancehall.
